INNOVATION / DESIGN / HOSPITALITY

THE BARREL INN - HOPE VALLEY

APRIL 4, 2020

A lovely traditional Derbyshire country Inn, dating back to 1597, welcoming walkers, dogs and overnight guests. Wanting to create a welcoming glazed porch area that was both aesthetically pleasing to the property but also functional for the muddy footfall that they can receive.

The Inn is located in a small hamlet, that sits on a table of land some 1300 feet above sea level, which means that on days of server weather this little pub can take a battering from the wind, rain and snow.  Due to this, when designing the structure we had to ensure that wind tolerances and weight bearing calculations were complete and also the pitch of the roof calculated to the existing building heights.  This would be to ensure that the structure would withstand wind, rain and snow loads.   We also ensured extra tough glass and powder coating to the frames were used to minimise the effect of the harsh weather conditions.

This area was warmly and greatly received by the owners and customers alike.  Providing an entrance space external to the dinging & drinking area for removing, cleaning or changing boots etc.  Also protecting the inside of the building from drafts when the external door is opened so that it stay nice and cosy inside.
